・被嚢動物のホヤは究極の怠け者である。この小さな連中は、幼生の頃は運動して獲物を捕るので、脳を必要とする。しかし、いったん適所を見つけて固着生活に入ると、もう考える必要がなくなり、エネルギー面で負担の大きい脳を自分で食べてしまう。脳は大量のエネルギーを消費するため、それは必要なくなれば、処分してしまうのが得策なのである。
